In commemoration of the 21st Anniversary of the Federation of Mountaineering Indonesia (FMI), FMI Chairman Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Buyung Lalana, SE affirmed that FMI must be an idealistic and dignified home for all outdoor enthusiasts in Indonesia.
"I bring my fellow FMI members with one determination: to make FMI an idealistic organization. A home for mountain enthusiasts who uphold dignity and integrity. As a mountaineer, a seafarer, and also someone who serves in the ministry and for the state, I am committed to advancing climbing activities, both on land and at sea, for the progress of Indonesia,”_ said Maj. Gen. Buyung.
He emphasized the importance of integrating mountain and maritime activities. The message from senior members and “mountain professors” is that mountaineering expertise must have a broad impact.
“Our activities are not only about reaching the summit. At sea, we must be capable of rescue operations, repairing vessels, supporting fisheries, and being empowered in marine science. On land, we must keep the mountains sustainable. These are two sides of the same coin of the FMI spirit,”_ he stated.
Regarding synergy with the state, Maj. Gen. Buyung encouraged collaboration with ministries and institutions to create supportive regulations.
"The goal of our cooperation is to build regulations and programs that professionally benefit the community. Both through education, marine tourism, and aquaculture. We have many great human resources, including former TNI personnel who are experts in both land mountaineering and maritime activities. This potential must be utilized so they can also earn a livelihood and contribute to the nation,” he continued.
In closing, he called on the entire FMI family to strengthen brotherhood.
"My hope is that the FMI organization will become even more solid. We look after one another, strengthen each other’s weaknesses, and care for one another. With that spirit, FMI will continue to deliver tangible benefits for the environment, safety, and society,”_ concluded Maj. Gen. Buyung.
