The Creative Forum for Nusantara Cultural Filmmaking (FKPBN) and the Association of Indonesian Cinema Owners (GPBSI) have officially met to discuss a strategic collaboration to produce films that highlight local culture and traditions.
The meeting took place at Usmar Ismail Building, PARFI 4th Floor, Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Attending the meeting were Rd. Sonnia Soemadikarta Kusumah, Chairwoman of FKPBN, and Toto Soegriwo, Secretary General of GPBSI.
This collaboration aims to strengthen the national film ecosystem by producing more films rooted in Indonesian local wisdom, traditions, and regional stories. In addition to production, GPBSI is committed to supporting the distribution and theatrical release of these films across cinema networks throughout Indonesia.
Rd. Sonia Soemadikarta Kusumah stated:
"We believe that film is the most powerful bridge to introduce our nation's culture to the younger generation. Through this collaboration with GPBSI, we want to ensure that films based on local culture are not only produced, but also given proper screening space so they can be enjoyed by audiences nationwide".
Toto Soegriwo added:
"GPBSI is ready to be a home for Indonesian films with strong cultural identity. Cinemas are not only for blockbusters, but also for stories from the regions that carry the noble values of our nation. This is a long-term investment in culture," said.
Through this partnership, FKPBN and GPBSI target the production of several local culture-based films within the next year. The initial phase will include script curation, workshops for regional directors, and special screening schemes in GPBSI member cinemas.
FKPBN and GPBSI hope this initiative will inspire filmmakers, local governments, and other creative industry players to work together in preserving and promoting Nusantara culture through the big screen.

The Association of Indonesian Cinema Owners (GPBSI) is the organization representing cinema operators across Indonesia, committed to developing the exhibition ecosystem for national films.
